road trip gothic
• you see a lump in the asphalt. you can’t help grimacing when you hear the cracking as you drive over it.
• you leave in the morning. at dinner your tank is still full. you’ve driven at least 500 miles.
• as you slow down for a hitchhiker in the rain he smiles. the shark teeth that emerge from his mouth urge you to speed up.
• you keep passing the same exit sign, but you still haven’t passed exit 666.
• you try to merge left. there are always more lefts. you keep speeding up. there are always more left lanes.
• not far away from your house, you hear scratches coming from under the seats.
• at a rest stop you see a man who makes you nervous. you decide to leave. twenty minutes later you’re on the dark highway and you feel a tap on your shoulder.
• as you’re driving through a state park you hear the radio crack alerting you to several bears in the area. whatever is in front of you is not a bear.
• you keep seeing headlights in the fog on the other side of the road. no cars have passed you.
• a car is riding your bumper so you pull off to let them pass. you hear a knock on the window.
• it begins raining so hard you decide to stop on the side of the road. you can’t find it. soon you’re driving amongst trees and sticks. you’re still on the road.
